Kit vs beehiiv vs MailerLite in 2026: the best email tool for creators who sell digital products
Disclosure: We sell our own digital products on Gumroad, and a few of them are linked at the end of this page. We have no partnership with Kit, beehiiv or MailerLite and aren’t paid for any link here.
If you sell templates, ebooks, presets or courses, your email list is where most sales start. Kit (formerly ConvertKit), beehiiv and MailerLite all let you build that list, and all three now let you sell digital products directly too. They price very differently, though: by list size, by plan, and by a cut of each sale.
We compared the published pricing of all three on October 20, 2026. Prices change, so check the linked pricing page before you decide.
The short version
- Small list, want to sell right away for $0 a month: Kit’s free plan covers up to 10,000 subscribers and includes selling digital products and subscriptions. You pay 3.5% + 30¢ per sale (card processing included) instead of a monthly fee.
- Newsletter-first, planning paid subscriptions or ads: beehiiv takes 0% of digital product and paid subscription revenue (you pay only Stripe’s 2.9% + $0.30), but paid subscriptions and its ad network need a paid plan, from $59 a month ($49 billed yearly).
- Cheapest paid plan for a growing list, mostly sending newsletters and automations: MailerLite starts at $12 a month for 500 subscribers and stays the lowest-priced paid option at every list size we checked. Its free plan only covers 250 subscribers.

What you’d pay each month by list size
Paid plan prices from each company’s pricing page on October 20, 2026. The cheapest plan that fits is in bold. “Yearly” is the per-month price when billed annually.
| Subscribers | Kit | beehiiv | MailerLite |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1,000 | Free $0 (Creator $39, or $33 yearly) | Free $0 (Lite $59, or $49 yearly) | Comfort $19 ($17.10 yearly) |
| 2,500 | Free $0 (Creator $59, or $50 yearly) | Free $0 (Lite $79, or $69 yearly) | Comfort $33 ($29.70 yearly) |

| 10,000 | Free $0 (Creator $139, or $116 yearly) | Lite $139 ($119 yearly) | Comfort $89 ($80.10 yearly) |
Kit’s free plan is the standout on price up to 10,000 subscribers, but unlimited visual automations and email sequences, the tools most product sellers use for welcome and launch emails, are listed as Creator features. If you need those, compare Kit Creator with beehiiv Lite and MailerLite Comfort in the brackets above: MailerLite is the cheapest of the three at every size, and Kit Creator is cheaper than beehiiv Lite.
Worked example: selling $500 a month of digital products
Assumptions: $20 average price, so 25 sales a month, all paid by card. List of 1,000 subscribers.
| Option | Plan cost | Cut of sales | Total a month |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kit Free | $0 | 3.5% × $500 = $17.50, + 25 × $0.30 = $7.50 → $25.00 (processing included) | $25.00 |
| Kit Creator (automations), yearly | $33 | $25.00 | $58.00 |
| beehiiv Free (one product only) | $0 | Stripe 2.9% × $500 = $14.50, + 25 × $0.30 = $7.50 → $22.00 | $22.00 |
| beehiiv Lite, yearly | $49 | $22.00 | $71.00 |
| MailerLite Comfort, yearly | $17.10 | Stripe $22.00 (0% MailerLite commission) | $39.10 |
With one product and a small list, beehiiv’s free plan is the cheapest way to sell, by $3 a month. With several products, Kit’s free plan is the cheapest because it doesn’t cap how many you can sell. Once you need automations, the gap between the paid plans matters more than the per-sale cut.
Who each one is best for
Kit is best for creators who sell several products and want selling, landing pages and email in one place without a monthly bill while the list is small. The free plan’s 10,000-subscriber limit is far higher than the others’. Paid plans add unlimited visual automations and sequences, A/B tests and branding removal.
beehiiv is best for newsletter-first creators who want to earn from paid subscriptions, sponsorships and its ad network, and keep 100% of product and subscription revenue apart from Stripe’s fee. It also includes a website builder, podcast hosting and a community on every plan.
MailerLite is best for people on a budget whose list is past the free tiers and who mainly send newsletters and automated email. Its paid plans cost the least of the three at every list size we checked, and automations are included even on Free.
The honest downsides
Kit
- Every sale costs 3.5% + 30¢, even on paid plans, so the cut grows with your revenue (it includes card processing, which you’d pay anywhere).
- Unlimited visual automations and email sequences need the paid Creator plan.
- Paid plans are priced by list size and rise quickly: $139 a month (or $116 yearly) for Creator at 10,000 subscribers.
beehiiv
- The free plan stops at 2,500 subscribers, allows only one digital product and has no paid subscriptions.
- The paid plans start highest of the three: $59 a month ($49 yearly) for 1,000 subscribers.
- Removing beehiiv branding needs Pro ($109 a month at 1,000 subscribers).
MailerLite
- The free plan covers only 250 subscribers and 2,500 emails a month, and sending locks when you go over until you upgrade or remove subscribers.
- Comfort caps monthly emails at 10× your subscriber tier and allows 5 digital products; unlimited needs Power.
- Selling needs a Stripe account in a Stripe-supported country, and Comfort caps you at 5 products.
How to choose in two minutes
- Count your current subscribers and the products you plan to sell.
- One product, under 2,500 subscribers: beehiiv Free.
- Several products, under 10,000 subscribers, no automations yet: Kit Free.
- Need automations or a bigger list on a budget: MailerLite Comfort, or Kit Creator if you’d rather keep selling inside your email tool.
- Paid newsletter or ad revenue is the goal: beehiiv Lite.
- Before you commit, read the current pricing page. The numbers above were correct on October 20, 2026.
