Etsy fees explained (2026): listing, transaction, processing and Offsite Ads
Selling on Etsy costs more than the headline 6.5%. A typical US order pays four kinds of fees: a $0.20 listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee, 3% + $0.25 payment processing, and, if the buyer came from one of Etsy’s ads on another site, an Offsite Ads fee of 15% or 12% (capped at $100). This guide covers each one for US sellers, as of October 2026, with worked examples.

Listing fee: $0.20
Publishing a listing costs $0.20, whether or not it sells. A listing lasts 4 months, and auto-renewing an expired listing costs another $0.20.
When an item sells, an auto-renewing listing is renewed for $0.20, and if the buyer takes more than one, you pay $0.20 for each extra quantity. In practice that works out to about $0.20 per item sold, which is how the calculator counts it. Private (custom) listings also cost $0.20, charged when the buyer purchases.
Transaction fee: 6.5%
Etsy takes 6.5% of the order total: the item price plus shipping and gift wrap if you charge for them. Shipping isn’t a way around the fee: “free shipping” with a higher item price costs the same in transaction fees as a lower price plus a shipping charge.
The transaction fee isn’t charged on sales tax that Etsy collects.
Payment processing fee: 3% + $0.25
Every order paid through Etsy Payments carries a processing fee. For a shop with a US bank account it’s 3% of the total + $0.25 per order. The total here includes sales tax, so you pay processing on tax that you never keep. Rates are different in other countries (for example 4% + 0.30 EUR in most of the EU and 4% + 0.20 GBP in the UK).
If you refund an order, the processing fee is credited back in proportion to the refund.
Offsite Ads fee: 15% or 12%, capped at $100
Etsy advertises listings on Google, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Bing and partner sites. If a buyer clicks one of these ads and buys anything from your shop within 30 days, the order is “attributed” and you pay an Offsite Ads fee on the order total:
- 15% if your shop has never made $10,000 in any 365-day period. You can opt out in Shop Manager → Settings → Offsite Ads.
- 12% once your shop has made $10,000 or more in a 365-day period. From then on Offsite Ads are required for the life of the shop.
- The fee never exceeds $100 per order. At 15% the cap kicks in on orders above $666.67; at 12%, above $833.33.
You don’t pay anything for clicks that don’t lead to a sale. If the buyer’s last click before buying was an Etsy Ad (on-site), only the Etsy Ads fee applies.
Worked examples
Each fee is rounded to the cent, so your statement can differ by a cent from these numbers.
A $28 item with $6.50 shipping
The buyer pays $34.50. Cost of goods is $9.40 and the shipping label is $5.10.
| Normal order | Same order with 7% sales tax | Offsite Ads order (15%) | Offsite Ads order (12%) | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Listing | $0.20 | $0.20 | $0.20 | $0.20 |
| Transaction (6.5% of $34.50) | $2.24 | $2.24 | $2.24 | $2.24 |
| Processing (3% + $0.25) | $1.29 | $1.36 | $1.29 | $1.29 |
| Offsite Ads | none | none | $5.18 | $4.14 |
| Total Etsy fees | $3.73 | $3.80 | $8.91 | $7.87 |
| Fees as % of $34.50 | 10.8% | 11.0% | 25.8% | 22.8% |
| You receive | $30.77 | $30.70 | $25.59 | $26.63 |
| Profit after $9.40 + $5.10 costs | $16.27 | $16.20 | $11.09 | $12.13 |
| Margin | 47.2% | 47.0% | 32.1% | 35.2% |
With 7% tax the buyer pays $36.92 ($34.50 + $2.42 tax). The tax isn’t your income, but processing is charged on all of it: 3% × $36.92 + $0.25 = $1.36. One Offsite Ads order takes a third of this order’s profit.
Small and digital items
With no shipping and no costs besides Etsy’s fees:
| Price | Listing | Transaction | Processing | Total fees | Effective fee | You receive |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| $5 | $0.20 | $0.33 | $0.40 | $0.93 | 18.6% | $4.07 |
| $8 | $0.20 | $0.52 | $0.49 | $1.21 | 15.1% | $6.79 |
| $20 | $0.20 | $1.30 | $0.85 | $2.35 | 11.8% | $17.65 |
| $50 | $0.20 | $3.25 | $1.75 | $5.20 | 10.4% | $44.80 |
| $100 | $0.20 | $6.50 | $3.25 | $9.95 | 10.0% | $90.05 |
The fixed $0.45 ($0.20 listing + $0.25 processing) hits cheap items hardest: a $5 item pays almost twice the effective rate of a $100 item.
Three items in one order
A buyer takes 3 × $12 with $5 shipping, $41.00 in total. Listing is 3 × $0.20 = $0.60, transaction is $2.67, and processing is $1.48 (the $0.25 is charged once per order). Total fees are $4.75 (11.6%), and you receive $36.25. Selling the same three items as three separate orders would cost an extra $0.50 in fixed processing fees.
A $900 order from an Offsite Ad
15% of $900 would be $135, but the cap limits it to $100. With the $0.20 listing fee, $58.50 transaction and $27.25 processing, total fees are $185.95 (20.7%) and you receive $714.05.
Pricing for the fees
For a single item with no shipping charge, no tax and no Offsite Ads, what you receive is:
you receive = price - 0.20 - 0.065 * price - (0.03 * price + 0.25)
= 0.905 * price - 0.45
price = (amount you want to receive + 0.45) / 0.905
To receive $10 you need to charge $11.55, and to receive $20, $22.60. Once you add shipping, costs, sales tax or Offsite Ads, it gets harder to work out by hand: the Etsy fee & profit calculator solves for the price that hits a target margin, a target profit per order, or break-even.
A few rules of thumb:
- Count shipping as revenue that pays fees. Both the 6.5% and the processing fee apply to it.
- Check your margin on an Offsite Ads order. If a 15% (or 12%) order would lose you money, raise the price or, while you’re under $10,000, think about opting out.
- Encourage multi-item orders. The $0.25 processing fee is per order, so a bundle or a “buy 2” discount saves a little on every extra item.
- Watch the cheap listings. Under about $10, the fixed fees take a big share. Bundles or higher-value variants usually work better.
FAQ
How much does Etsy take per sale in 2026?
For a US seller with no Offsite Ads, about 9.5% of the order total plus $0.45 for a one-item order: 6.5% transaction, 3% + $0.25 processing and $0.20 listing. On a $34.50 order that’s $3.73. An Offsite Ads order adds 15% or 12%, up to $100.
Does Etsy charge fees on shipping?
Yes. The 6.5% transaction fee and the payment processing fee both apply to what the buyer pays for shipping. Offsite Ads are also charged on the order total.
Does Etsy charge fees on sales tax?
Only the payment processing fee. Etsy collects and sends US sales tax for you, and the 3% + $0.25 is charged on the total including that tax.
Can I avoid the Offsite Ads fee?
Only while your shop has never made $10,000 in a 365-day period: you can opt out in Shop Manager → Settings → Offsite Ads. Once you cross $10,000 you pay the lower 12% rate and can’t opt out.
Are Etsy fees refunded if I refund an order?
Mostly. Etsy recalculates the processing fee and other applicable fees (such as the transaction fee) on the adjusted sale price and credits the difference to your payment account. The exception is a full refund that Etsy itself covers through its protection program: then the fees aren’t credited back. See the Etsy Payments Policy for the exact rules.
